Any typical problems?

If you are/were a thinkpad user, please share your experience.

Like performance for the price, reliability (does it stop working one fine morning?), getting spares, service...

Any hidden problems/limitations?

Can we install xp/linux or both. I heard it is difficult to install xp manually due to some in-built drivers from IBM.

Please read my question , i know its long, but request you to kindly take the pain.I dont want to make a blunder.

Thanks a lot...

Your thinkpad x61 is good.I won't be able to talk about the price cause i got mine from my dept (x60) for free.
In terms of reliability/performance it's very good indeed and thinkpads are business laptops (thats what they were made for).
As for spares i got a stick of DDR2 ram but i didn't buy it, so yes spares are available. (can vary from model though)
As for installing XP, yup i ran into some troubles cause i didn't have my xp disc, so i had to customize one and embed Sata drivers onto it. but no hassle if you have a floppy drive (mine doesn't :()..oops your doesn't too.
