Apologise for my lack of detail. Im looking to use it for gaming as well as multimedia, movies, music etc. Im not however using it for hardcore gaming just need a decent systm that will play new games at a sufficient level. I am also looking to set this up on a wireless lan network in my house. My budget is around $1700 Aus ;less if possible and this system is going for just under $1000 Aus but i need to add moniter keyboard etc to that.

sounds pretty good, although, you might as well get 256mb version of the 8600gt. You really wont see any benefit of 512mb on THAT card. If you go 8800gt, then go 512mb!

CPU: E8400/ Q9300/ Q9450
RAM: Go for DDR2 800
Motherboard: P31/ P35/780i/X38 chipset.
Graphic card: I personally prefer 2600XT than 8600GT. But I will suggest go for HD3850/ 8800GT.
If you want to keep the similar budget, I will say get E8400 + HD3850 instead of Q6600 + 8600GT

This setup is from an australian ebay seller but i am attempting to find a system with a similar setup and price that is a bit more customisable. This is difficult however as most sites that do this arent; australian

8800GT is what I recommend for GPU
I would avoid Asus motherboard, picky with ram

definitely wait for the 45nm CPUs from intel, the Q9000s if you want quad.

Which motherboard would you recomend? I would love to wait for the Q9000s but Im on a tight schedule as my brother needs my computer to go to university.
