Finding IP via IM

Whats up everyone....I have someone who keeps IM'ing me, i have no idea who they are or how they got my SN. Normally, I wouldnt care but this got old. They were constantly iming me, talking some bad stuff and my girlfriend and I. I finally blocked them. I am curious to know who it is and with that said, is there a way in which i can find out ones IP via AIM? While i do understand if this topic is borderline acceptable, it would be nice to know. Thanks in advance.
 
It's basically a reverse lookup, you could try a place like this, however i CANNOT vouch for the site,... never used it before.
 
thanks byteman, i thought youd come up sooner or later! i actually had checked that site through a google search and i think its pay. oh well, thanks for the heads up though!
 
run ipconfig in cmd prompt, and note all the ip addresses, then send the perosn a file medium size, like a song or something, and run ipconfig again, a new ip address should come up.

Do some form of direct connect and your firewall will log it (if you've got a decent one)

ipconfig only notes the local ip not the remote ip
 
I dont know the name of the program, but theres an AIM add on, where you can put a link in your profile, like "click here", and you can see all the people that visit your profile and it shows what state they are in an I think the IP, maybe that will help ya.
 
And when you find this person's IP, most of the tracing programs only tell you the apprx. area that they live in, it wont tell you that the IM came from John Smith's house at 12 Main Street. And sometimes there not even accurate, saying that they live in another state that they actually do. However, if you still want to know it, do was Praetor said with the direct connection.
 
it may of been netstat -n, not ipconfig
i cant remember, theres something you can do in cmd propmt that tells you, i swear there is
 
christ on a bike! thanks everyone for the response! I need to look into getting a firewall....i invest too much trust in my router hehe. Not to change course in the middle of a topic but any recommendations on a free firewall?

when wire shark is active, start talking to this anoying person on IM and wireshark will recover there ip address

Won't work, you will only get the IP of the AIM servers. Btw, this thread was made in 2005, lol.
