Gaming PC vs. Xbox 360

I'm getting a new gaming system, and i'm trying to decide between a gaming computer or an Xbox 360. What are the advantages of each? It seems like there aren't that many pc games out there.(no worry about budget)

I would buy the computer because you can do a bunch of other things on it other than play games. Also, if you buy the right parts you can get better graphics than those of the 360/PS3.

And what do you mean with

It seems like there aren't that many pc games out there

???

I'd totally go for a PC. Yes you will spend more to make it perform better than a 360 but it's dang worth it and you also get a multi-media center along with the PC ;).

i was mistaken. I thought there was only a handful of popular games for the pc(Halo 3, call of Duty 4), but i was way off!! What graphics card do you recommend for my custom gaming pc? And should i configure an SLI or crossfire setup?

You could get an 8800 which is currently the best series out there.

Yes, get the 8800GT 512MB (or the G92 8800GTS 512MB...it's more expensive, but some of them come with free games..)

I wouldn't recommend SLI...it's not worth it for the money (in most people's eyes...although if you have no budget, go for it).

You could get the GTX 768MB since the Ultra is just an overclocked version of the GTX and is not as expensive. Otherwise you could get the 8800GTS 512MB which currently does excellent in modern games. I think they have th BFG one for like $310 at newegg.com right now.

If you got the money, and the disposition to spend it fluidly, PC all the way. If you have a constrained budget, or prefer a singularly more static experience, a console would be wiser.

Nevermind, limitless budget = no duh

If you have no budget, why not just get both?

I can very easily find the time to play games on both my 360 and my PC.

You can't beat Xbox Live.

This is just me talking here but, in my experiences a console would be better. Not many kids have a solid gaming computer here at college, however a ton of people have Xbox 360's and Playstation 3's etc etc. My room mate and I are one of the few who's computers are powerful enough to play certain games..so were at kind of a disadvantage. I was contemplating buying a console rather than building a new computer over the summer...I'll still probably build a computer because its been a dream of mine to build one, but a console is VERY handy here in college:)

Those were my thoughts as I will be attending college this fall but I am devoted to PC gaming and will stay that way! You can play online with your buddies back home too. It's not like you have to play with just your college mates.

I guess the bigger the college you attend, the more people that might have a gaming PC.

I dont know wich one would be better to be honest. I mean, I like playing both, xbox and pc atm. (as for SLI not beeing worth it, each their own ^^ my cards are still going pretty good :D ) anyways, I think it would come down to what sort of games you like playing really. for example, I cant stand racing games played with a keyboard (with the exception of Need for Speed Underground and Most wanted (and the 2's ofc :P), while i really LOVE project gotham on the 360. also, for playing with friends, the xbox is much more entertaining too. (on a pc only 1 can play at a time, at least, in almost every game, while with the xbox you can play together)

but like said, it comes down to what games you like, and ofcourse on the budget. I mean, yea, sure, you can get better grafic's on a pc, however youre already almost spending more on the grafic's card alone than you would spend on the whole console. (and yea, imo thats worth considering too, at least, if you're on a budget)

What is with you all reccomending 8800GTX's? For an Ultra' s price, buy two 8800GTS 512mb and SLI them for maximum performance. And here I am thinking you guys were gonna help him out. :P

First person shooters/RPG/Strategies are crap on consols. Lol. So get the PC, PC's will always be better, plus you can get almost every games on console on computer. They did make the games on computers after all. :)

if you get a counsel, then what will you use for email, visiting forums, research, etc? you'll probably end up using a computer anyway so you might as well get a nice one that can be used for gaming as well.

as for games, on a computer you can mod most games to offer different game worlds, different weapons, different graphics, different enemies, etc, etc. so they offer much more variety and replayability then a counsel game, which you will already know all about the game once you play threw and and then its not nearly as fun anymore. whats better? getting a $40 counsel game, playing threw it once or twice, knowing everything about it, and then never using it again? or getting a PC game, playing threw it once or twice, then completely altering the world, enemies, graphics, quests, items, etc, etc to have the game filled with all new things to explore and do?

anything a counsel can offer can be used on a pc too. don't like the keyboard and mouse for gaming? get a wheel and peddles (i have a Logitech G25 and love it), and counsel controllers also have PC USB replicas as well. don't like being AT the computer sitting in a pc chair? nobody says you HAVE to use a pc chair with a pc, you could get a nice one. you could also cable extenders for the keyboard and mouse or use wireless ones.
