945gc support 1333FSB

The vendor for my barebones package assembled a motherboard with a 945gc chipset that claims it can support a 1333fsb for core 2 duo. On intel's website, it says 945gc only supports 800mhz fsb, which isnt even close. I called them up and they said it would support it. I see online there are other boards such as ASUS and Intel that do the same thing, supporting 1333 fsb when in overclock mode. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this, or is it made up. Also why could it support a 1333 fsb, but not 800 mhz ram. Will 667Mhz ram bottleneck my fsb performance.

by the way, to the person that told me the chipset was 945g, that was not my board, almost identical though, i have as rock conroe 1333 d667, the one you showed me was DVI. How can a chip reported on intels site with a 800mhs fsb support 1333.

I should have researched better, but this was my first computer and was too eager to study. THis is a good lesson, for my next computer i know to buy the motherboard before anything else and wait 4 months to get the best parts if thats what it takes.

Do you know the model number of the motherboard that you have? If i'm not mistaken then only 965 chipsets will only support 1333fsb. But give us the model number of the board and we'll check it out.

The P35 and X38 do as well, I'm not sure about the 965 though.

All you told me earlier was that you had the ASRock Conroe 1333, so I googled it and got that info. Could you post a link to the exact motherboard you have?

also, i have the option to upgrade to an intel with a p39 north and ich9 south, should i do it. If the conroe supports 1333, the only advantage of the intel would be 800mhz ram vs 667 mhz ram. The conore overclocks the pci express to 115mhz olso

heres the deal. it does not OFFICIALLY support 1333, but it can withstand the overclock necessary to reach that speed. it will support any dual core, even the new ones, but not a quad core.
