Solid state hard drives = the future ?

SSD's are cool, however as of now the transfer rates really aren't anything special, although the access times are much faster then ordinary hard drives. Too bad they are extremely expensive for the SATA versions, and capacities are still very low.

They also consume way less power
Good point, I remember hearing that they will begin to be shipped in laptops, at least as options in the near future, which would help battery life greatly when performing heavy load disk activities.

Depends on how far you want to look into the future....eventually it will be nano-drives... Nanyte based storage drives. But for a while, SSD will probably rule the world, just as the spinning hard drives are ruling the market now.

ssd is a great choice for top grade notebooks as it uses less power with decent performance.

but ultimately for it to succeed the prices has to go down soon.

Prices will drop and regular hard disks will be gone in 5 years, and my computer will finally be pretty much silent.

And the specs of macbook air are plenty for most people - most people have a laptop as a second computer, especially in London, where every business guy and girl is gonna have one, and all they do is internet and word processing
