Had it with my 8800 GTX-Need new card advice

Hello all. Couple months ago I spent about 2000$ building a gaming comp. Well, the 8800 GTX has been nothing but trouble and my system hardlocks constantly. I have read on the Nvidia forums this is not uncommon and noone seems to have a solution. I want this damn card out, but what should I replace it with? My Mb is a MB EVGA NF680I 775 and I have an E6600 cpu. Is there a solid, dependable vid card for my system?
 
System hardlocks when playing games, particularly Supreme Commander. Happened less when I adjusted GPU fan speed to 100% using Rivatuner but now that's not even cutting it. Lots of people having issues with this card.
 
the new 8800GTS works nicely and can be found for under 300 dollars. i believe it beats the 8800GTX in a few cases, as well as being lighter on power and cooler
 
Are you sure it's the card making your system hardlock? The only problem I had with my GTXes were extremely high framerates. :P
