Need Hard Drive Upgrade, Help!

What make and model board with this go on? If the board lacks sata ports which newer board will see standard you will have to go for an ide model. The 250gb size is generally good for the average build. For increased capacity eventually you may decide to go with a larger primary drive as well.

Chances are if your drive is that old that WoW takes up so much of it, your computer won't have SATA support. You'll probably be looking for a PATA one.

The game itself gets into the gigs as far as program directory and files. An old 13-20gb drive will fill fast with a few games and other programs installed. If less then 10gb total no sata or a need for a sata controller card added into a pci slot for an old board. The make and model board itself will reveal all when the specifications are looked over.

Where can I go on my comp to find the specs, so I can tell you what kind of board I have. It's an Asus but I don't know the number or anything..

One small free program will provide a complete hardware and software breakdonwn on the entire system including makes and model numbers for cpu, board, drives, video and sound cards. dial-up modems or nik cards evern. That would be the System Info for Windows(SIW) tool found at http://www.gtopala.com/

Hi guys, I received my new hard drive. I can't find matching plugs for 2 of the 3 slots on the drive. Can anyone who I spoke to earlier on the thread lend some advice?

I'm able to hook up the Power cable but not the Data or jumper block cables. I'm unfamiliar with what a PSU is also, sorry. What type of cable is the one you mentioned for?

Ok, I'll get a SATA cable. can you explain where it plugs into on my board please?

SATA ports look like This (scroll down to see the pic). Just locate them on your motherboard and plug it in. (Just make sure they're lined up right ;)

And for your earlier question on what a PSU is, it stands for Power Supply Unit.

The cable came in. I tried to hook it up but I did something wrong. I found a cable that fit the power socket on the HD, and the sata cable fit also. I plugged the other end of the sata into a slot on my motherboard. There were more than one of those slots, so maybe I plugged it into the wrong one. Does the sata go into the board or into the psu? Is the psu a seperate component? Also, when I booted up, the 'found new hardware' box in my toolbar appeared.. but the drive doesn't appear in My Computer..
Thanks in advance for the help.

PSU = power supply unit, just so you know.

It sounds like you plugged everything in correctly. Just in case, here's how you do it: You need a plug from the power supply -- either Molex or SATA -- that goes into the back of the hard drive. Use one or the other; don't use both. Then, plug your SATA data cable into the back of the drive and into the motherboard.

Once you confirm everything is plugged in correctly, boot into the BIOS and see if the drive is recognized.
