Dual Core Celeron questions

I was just browsing Newegg.com and found the E1200 1.6ghz dual core celeron. I have a few questions about it. Is this processor likely to be around in the future? How has it done in tests and such? Do you think they made it to get people into dual core processors? I just want to know for a very tight budget pc how you think this processor is? I meen i know they have had the celeron around forever and it is likely to be there forever as it is a good budget processor for many people. With the rise in people wanting dual core processors do you think there will be a place for the dual core celeron in the future? Thanks just want some input.

Yeah i figured AMD was better for the price. I was just curious what people thought about that dual core celeron. I definately would go for an AMD over that celeron.
 
^i didn't say i was getting one just so everyone knows. But thanks for the input. I would prefrer an AMD Athlon 64 x2
 
Yeah that's right, if you want budget processors then stick with AMD, they are working very hard to be competitive in the budget sector of the market. Do NOT whatever you do, touch Celeron CPUs, I have had the misfortune of using a few before and they are totally pieces of scrap silicon, even slower than the swamp monsters in 80s horror films.
 
yea i had a cleron completely die on me. They're ok though. all my comps before this were celerons and only one of them died...but it was an old emachines so... Yea AMD x2 are definetly better. But celerons are cool for comps that u expect to use only for a yr or two
 
the newer single core Celeron D processes are alright but that is probably because there just a P4 under that name.
yea there ok but no Intel single core compares with a AMD single core.
now back to your topic deffently get a AMD a 4200 will be good but the 4800+ was a good processor back in its day when it was new
 
I was just about to say the same thing, i've had a Celeron D for some time now, great performance for what i payed. No complaints here.

Also, the performance of AMD's future CPU is still unclear. I personally will go for E1200 set-up as you will have the upgrade ability.
And having the C2D based architecture, which will show the E1200 ocing ability, while the AMD dual-core is minimal.

Looking at AM2 motherboards... Getting a decent one is around $85+. LGA775? Whole different story.
 
I've read various other places though, that AMD overlcock ver well, especially on the cusotmer reviews on Newegg
 
The Celeron's based off the P4's were crap, the new Celeron's and Celeron M's are much better performers.

It's doing 3.07GHz stable. (Well, not a freeze in BF2 at full settings yet, nor Halo 2 at full).

With that 1333FSB mod, I'm betting to see 3.4GHz+. Get past the 400 and keep on going.

And to think this is going on a $8 cooler and stock thermal paste :eek:

Any P31/P35/X38/780i will be great. I had a Foxconn mobo for my Celeron 420, and I got it easily with stock cooler and paste from 1.6GHz to 2.14GHz. Quite a nice jump for a $250 system if you ask me.
 
Ive worked with quite a few celerons in my time, there ratings and performance may well be good or up to standard but ive found by experience that they experience just heaps of problems instablitiy etc. When like the last 15 or so celeron pcs ive worked with have just given me problem after problem, I try to avoid them like the plague.

Pentium's sucked. The Celeron were budget versions of the Pentiums.

Core 2 Duos are the best processors out here right now. The Celeron's architecture is basically based offa the C2D processors.

I wholeheartedly agree that the old Celerons were crap, however, the new ones are quite fast :)
