A friend and I were talking about processors, I mentioned I may want a Quad in the near future. He said I should get an E8400.

I would like detailed answers, not like, Quad core is better, cause it has more cores.

Thanks.

most current applications will better utilize a dual core rather than quad, especially the new 45nm cores. until more applications and games come out that uses all 4 cores, you should probably get the e8400

Which quad core? It's pointless trying to ask if a quad core is better then the E8400, as you may be talking about the Q6600 or the QX9650.

Q6600.

And I just sent you a PM about this. :P

If it's the Q6600 vs the E8400, then the E8400 wins hands down in gaming, especially since it's cheaper.

I love my quad core, however I bought mine before the E8400 was out, and knowing that the Q6600 is a great overclocker I decided to go with this, since I'm hoping to keep it for a while. I also do many other things with my PC besides gaming.

I can't believe people vote for quad core before even knowing which quad core he's talking about...

E8400 for gaming, the only way i would get a Q6600 is if your doing alot of editing and heavy multitasking. E8400, OC to 4Ghz. :D

Took the words right outta my mouth. Couldn't have said it better. E8400 performs better in gaming, the Q6600 is better in multitasking.

I would go Quad cause I personally do a lot of photoshoping and video editing. Plus, if you have a good graphics card, I don't think the perform is going to differ that much.

Don't get either...both dual cores and quad cores are overrated.

Go "old-school" and get a single core processor...the slowest one you can find, just to be a little rebel.

Any average Joe with a little extra $$$ can say "Look at my Quad Core at 4.2GHz!!!" but not very many can say "Oh yeah!!!?? I have a single core at 10MHz"

Anyways, just give it some thought, you know? I mean...all of the decisions about how "Dual cores do better in gaming, but quads are better for multi-tasking"...with a single core, you don't have to worry about that...because they're not good at anything.

^ Oh I should mention I'm kidding, and don't mind single core CPUs at all.
