Remote Computing

Greeting from Miami.

I have a question I hope you can answer. I've been looking for something to use to access my father's computer, remotely. He's 82, and forgets a lot. It would be much easier for me to just tap into his computer then yell, because he is also hard of hearing. I also have my father-in-law and other family members that at times would be easier to see what the hell they are talking about. GoToMyPC looks great, but is very expensive. RealVNC is not easy to set up. I guess I'm looking for something that gives you the ability to send and email with program to download, or link that the end user clicks and I can go from there.

I'm not looking for anything that is free, but at least somewhat affordible.

Thank you in advance for your help!

GoToMyPC is great and very quick and easy to use, but requires a very strong computer on your end with a good internet connection. For the price, it is best. No set up or complicated settings to change. Also, do the trial and then they will send you a coupon when you cancel after the trial to get the service for about $8 a month.

Thanks ukulele_ninja!

I'm also looking at GoToAssist. I think that may be a closer fit to what I'm trying to do. However, I understand that is also very expensive.

Thanks for your quick response!

Id go with GotoMypc its pretty solid, I used it for about 2 months, never had any problems with it.

Hi Vk3fcll:

We both have XP. No, we are not in the same household. Thank you.

Hi Teamhex: GoToMyPC would be a good choice, however, it's really meant for remote computing from your home/work environment, not so much for support, which is what I would like to do. For example. if I want to go into someone elses computer, say my sisters because she doesn't know how to create or organize files and folders, or doesn't remember where she put that MS Office document she had been working on for hours; I would be able to just do it, and in turn she can learn while watching.

Trizoy: Thank you for the reccomendation. Is it difficult to set up? I will look into it this afternoon.

Thanks again, Guys!!!

No it is fairly easy. The computer you will be controlling installs the program, and enters a password. The password is used to connect. So it is all on the server side, the client only needs a IE or firefox browser to control it.
