Flight Simulator X

Maybe Im the only one excited about this game, but it is freaking sweet! The graphics are breathtaking and are eons above what I remember from flight sim 95 days!

Ive played through a few training missions and earned my first two sets of pilots wings and successfully flown and landed a jumbo jet (i missed the run way by a loooooong shot and took out a couple trees :P) and a Cessna (hit the runway this time!) Both from the Newark-Heath airport which is about a 10 minute drive away so its pretty cool to see the scenary actually reflect local geography and the ice storm were currently experiencing

All I know is I am absolutely thrilled I ordered the 8800GT today because if the graphics look this good on the 2600Pro they are gonna be even more unbelievable once the Geforce comes out to play :D

Thats not even the best part :), online play!! When you talk to people that are ATC's its fun. Its like your really a pilot, I cant fly anything bigger then a leer jet, but im pretty damn good with a cessna and the mooney(All about the appoarch:) ). You can also have a online co-pilot.

Yay! Im not alone!

My fav is the Cessna right now, although im new to making flight plans and such. I set up a flight from Newark-Heath airport to Akron Intl, although im lost how I actually FOLLOW that flight plan

I plan on getting it when I buy a new laptop in a few months. Right now I have FS2002 and I'm pretty good with flying almost all of the aircraft in it, plus I love downloading extra planes. I've been up in Cessna's for real about 10 times (where I got to steer most of the time) and its remarkably realistic IMO... I can't wait to see how FSX improves on it :)

Ive been in a real Cessna once as a passenger, never flown for real (yet) lol. I dont know about FS2002 but in X you can crank the realism settings up so that it makes 'Pilot Realism' so there is little difference between an actual plane handling and FSX handling.

I am actually a pilot, and it is realistic. I know the clouds can be a little blochy sometimes, but everything fits together well. I tried a few other sims and the roll charecteristics of the other sims were always way to crazy!

Anyway, if you guys need the systems explained or how things work, let me know.

How would you guys think it would run on an imac (2ghz core2duo, 1gig of ram, 128mb (i think) video card)

My dad used to love his flight sims and I reckon he'd appreciate it. Plus I want it and he could buy it. Actually mainly that.

I have TONS of questions if you would be able to answer them actually... lol

Do you have FSX? I would love to do multiplayer with you sometime and have you teach me a couple things.

The video card would probably hold you back graphics wise (its very demanding on my 512 6200PRO on medium settings)

I imagine it would run, but you would not get to enjoy the whole experience.

I don't have it on my home PC, a buddy has it on his system. Im not even sure mine would run it without studdering..

PM me your aim or google name and I could walk you through some stuff..

Where do you fly?

Im currently a Private Instrument rated pilot. Been flying for 11 years. I fly C172's, C182's, P160's and P180's. I have done a lot of long flights.. like San Jose California to Bozeman Montana, San Jose California to Las Vegas.. All over California.. Planning on a Cabo trip soon enough!

Im actually taking a buddy and our 2 ladies tonight down to Harris ranch tonight for Valentines day. Its about a 45 min flight with a Runway at the restaurant!

Do you work in the industry, or did you go to school for aviation?

ive wanted to get into flight sims for a while but the learning curve scares me off. how long would it take to hop into a small plane in FSX and be comfortable with it? should i buy a joystick or just keyboard and mouse?

Joystick is the best and the learning curve is really nothing to be afraid of. You can adjust the settings to easy while your learning, that way you dont have nearly as much to worry about while your learning the basics.

I guarantee you could sit down in a cessna and have it off the ground and flying in about 15 minutes of getting comfortable with a few basic controls.

Ace! Nice one man! :D

A little off topic, but there's a good game, called Lock On: Modern Air Combat, It's mainly fighter jets, but it's a similair thing, maybe you'll like it? :)

I looked at Lock On and there are some cool vids on youtube from players. I opted for Blazing Angels 2 as a good fighter sim after checking out the reviews on both games.
