ok fellow geeks, maybe I should post this as two seperate threads but I dont want to break any rules. I have a non-central home network right now (no server per say just peer to peer)....I gave my daughter my spare laptop and as teeagers will do, she began downloading who knows what.....now, it's slow, crashes, shut off randomly all the nice things a well virus/malware infected computer do. but here's the problem, I cannot connect to it remotely......I have tried direct connection (no go), I have tried windows netmeeting (would you believe the desktop sharing button is greyed out), I even tried windows remote assistance (built into XP) my laptop tries but never connects to hers any ideas?

Also VNC is a great program I used it at my previous workplace but I cannot get it to work at home in a XP enviroment what am I doing wrong? any ideas are welcomed

If you cant connect to her computer whatsoever it sounds like a firewall issue. Have you allowed access to VNC etc in windows firewall? Can you ping her computer ok?

pinging

that was the first thing I did was to ping it......it's there.....my router see it, that's how I pull the IP address, just cant connect remotely.

Its going to be a a firewall also then by the sounds of it. Does her computer use a software firewall or windows firewall? have you installed the VNC server on her machine?
