Windows Vista vs. Mac OS X Leopard

To the members of COMPUTER FORUM.
Hi, my name is John (evilvikingking). I am new to this forum, but I have brought some excellent ideas with me.

There has been a lot of points raised about computer operating systems over the past few years. Things like “Is Windows Vista worth buying?”, and “Is the new Mac OS X Leopard all that is says it is?”.
These questions can be quite annoying to someone like me and you can point your finger at many different sources. These questions are mostly asked by the sort of person that just wants to know if the new Operating Systems are worth paying money for (hence the first question). So, as I am a nice person and know my fair share about Computers, I thought I might answer them.

Windows Vista
  • Takes a very long time to start up.
  • Asks you whether you are sure you want to do something, even though you have already clicked on it (this will get wearisome after a while).
  • Sure, it looks pretty good, but there really is no performance behind it.
  • None of the buttons mean anything.
  • All of the system sounds seem to have come from a TV Quiz Show.
  • Setting up a network is like descending into the seven circles of hell, and,
  • On top of all this, it costs about £178.

Mac OS X Leopard
  • Once again; looks brilliant, but it is as slow as a train with no wheels.
  • My mobile phone probably has more advanced features.
  • iTunes is an abomination to anyone who can call themselves a Nerd.
  • Don't even get me started on QuickTime.
  • The best game it can play should never have been made.

The thing is; both of these companies (Microsoft and Apple) do know how to make the most amazing things. Take the new iPhone, iPod Touch and 'that Zune thing'.

But, why, when it comes to Operating Systems are they so rubbish?
 
I completely agree about Windows Vista.

vista is full of animated and 3D stuff but very very low performance.i think windows xp still rocks.but there is another thing about microsoft.it's their service packs.soon or later they will make vista lot better than xp.(only in high performance computers).

I realy don't know about Leopard.

It can go much faster if you tweak it.

You can turn UAC off.

You can sacrifice the particularly good looks for performance, if you want.

I don't understand the point. Which buttons don't mean anything in what context?

If you're upgrading from XP, on an older computer, then you're going to have more problems with Vista. But you can still tweak it to make it go faster.

By "tweaking", I mean shutting off the Sidebar, Aero, various Services, indexing; adjusting visual effects for best performance etc.

In short, Vista is only as bad as you say it is straight out of the box. If you can be bothered to work with it, it's just as good as XP. That's my experience of it, anyway.

As for Leopard, I don't find the Mac OS as intuitive as Windows; probably only because I've grown up using Windows, not Mac OS.

Give Vista a couple of years and it'll be great. Saying it's just as good as XP is pretty stupid though, I'd ****ing hope it was.

OSX is still too frustrating, the 'squeeze the mouse (side button) to see all open windows' is a lovely thing that I really miss when I work in XP, I don't know if Vista has something similar (I'm sure it will have, probably far less clear though). As an OS I find it too unstable though, far to many things lock up, and simple tasks can take an age for no obvious reason.

XP seems the most honest OS. You almost always know what it's doing, and I find it rarely has any 'moments'.

Like I said though, once m/s tweak vista to run on lower powered machines well (it should be able to run on a 486 ffs, it's an operating system, sort it out m/s) I'll have it. Wouldn't it be great if we could walk into microsoft, take all their lovely new computers away, give them all 2ghz p4's with a gig of ram, and let them program on them. We'd have quicker, smarter, and more stable software within a year...

Vista wins apple by alot!

Pros:
Vitrual pc
Gaming in fullscreen and support
DX 10
Change Processers/Graphic cards/
Cheaper
Different Languages in Ultimate extras
3D

Cons:
Windows Movie maker is nothing compered to iMovie or now I think Leopard has Finalcut express installed in it.
Slow pc if your index is below 3.0;)


Leopard

Pro:
good video editing software.
No viruses

Cons:
Bootcamp to play yr games
No DX10 support
Can't update GPU
Over priced
Crappy EULA

I see... Ipods.. are crap. Macbooks are useless. Headphones break in a week. Iphone is horrible. LG's KU990 is alot better.

i knew this day would come, i hate threads as such cause it ends up as a forum war.I won't even debate on give my opinion on either Leopard or vista, and if there's someone here that will make you eat you words about Macs, well he hasn't seen this thread yet... ;)
