Wasnt sure where to post this.

I dont see a specific area for tv tuner cards.

Whats your guy's/gal's thoughts/opinions?

Hints? Tips and tricks?

whats recommended?
what to stay away from?

thanks

I got one (free on black friday) thinking I could watch TV in my room only to find out it needs to be plugged into a TV port. I haven't tried it yet since I don't have a port in my room, and there's no point carrying my computer downstairs when there is a nice TV there already.

So yeah, make sure you buy one that will work with your situation, and make sure it has what you want. Alot of them don't work so well and have issues with recording at HD resolutions.

I've already got it

i bought a VisionTek TV wonder HD650

trying to learn a bit about it before i install it and such
i've got cable in my room and all.

purchased it for the recording capabilities

My TV tuner is in, its working great

the picture is just a tad but on the fuzy side. very slight.
No big deal really

He posted the exact model he got, lol.

Analog???
Digital???
High Definition?????

My dad has one and it works well... just you need to have a fair fast computer for it to run smoothly... meaning around 2GB ram..... 2.4GHZ processor.....

but if you have nothing else running you can have it on a slower system.

sorry to jack this thread.

i have the same situation. no tv port in my room. are there cards that can be plugged directly to an antenna to get hd channels?

Yes, it has the round thing with screw notches, which I believe is standard for TV. I think it might also have some other port, I don't know. it could be done, but i don't know how well it actually works.

If you don't have a plug in your room you could always buy some bunny ears. They work great with my set top box downstairs. When I get my TV tuner (soon hopefully), thats what I will use.

I've got a Hauppage USB digital tuner, fantastic picture and a great improvement over my old analogue tuner card. All the freeview digital channels I want with timer recording but it does need an external aerial.
