New 9600gt Video Card

That card is way better than your 8600. According to benchmarks, it's almost as powerful as an HD3870 and about 90-95 percent of an 8800gt.

sry for stealing your thried but since there is a bigger increase in sli with a pair of 9600s would a pair of them win over a pair of 8800gts 640mb, because when they turn dirt cheap i plan on sli'ing my 8800gts 640, but is there really ony a 20 % increase

Well, actually the 9600gt and the HD3870 are basically equal, for the 9600gt beats the HD3870 in AA and the HD3870 can beat the 9600gt w/out AA.
So they are basically tied.

I believe the 9600gt has a newer version of video acceleration, or at the very least a contrast enhancement system of some sort. Supposed to make videos, HD or not, look better. I've seen pics, but they could just be propaganda.

SLI is real hit and miss. On some games you will get a 50% or better increase in framerates however in some you'll get none. I remember one benchmark that when two cards were used the fps went down! Nvidia says that two 9600GTs are eqaul to an 8800GTX.

I believe the 8800GS is somewhat equivalent to the 9600gt (I think the 9600gt is slightly better). The 8800GS was Nvidia's transition card for the mid-range market until they could get the 9600gt out. It was designed to compete against the 3850 and 3870 in price and performance. The 8800gs is not faster than an 8800gt by any means.
