How traceable are we when we type things on forums?

What kind of subjects could get you in trouble on a forum- writing about drugs? criminal or possible criminal acts? Racial abuse sexism? !

And if I write about trying to commit a future possible illegal activity. Are my mails archived? If I delete them will they still waiting in the FBIs or wherevers HDD?

Is my IP address reported to someone?

As I live in a guest house all the rooms or apartments share one router, doesnt this mean actual room isnt known? And even if they knew my room would they know my full name? They would have to contact my landlady, right for that?

Do they monitor your hotmail or other activities, e.g. credit card transactions and then find out your name?

Sorry, I was feeling a bit paranoid and wanted to bring this up?

When I spoke to the police once about this they told me sites rarely give out members IP addresses unless it is really, really serious.

Recently on a different forum I wrote about doing something, I never did it but wrote about it. One guy said there was no point deleting it as it had been archived. What does that mean? He was just another anonymous poster like me. Not the forum moderator. He possibly knew who my employer was and maybe wanted to inform on me I guess. Could someone do all this? I wasnt sure if he was winding me up. I deleted most of what I wrote already.

As far as IP goes, admin and mods of the forum can see it. Every website you go, your IP address is recorded.

But you are paranoid, true...I don't know why are you so afraid, if you aren't watching or posting porn on internet, you're 100% anonymouse :D

You are'nt by any chance AL CAPONES grandson, just give up the illegal activities and all will be well :D

What did you right about? If you threatened someone or something that is local to you, such as saying you are going to blow up a school, then yes there may be something to worry about. But if you are just talking about doing drugs, looking at pornography, download music, etc, there is nothing to worry about.

Yes your IP is recorded on every site, and no the site only knows the IP of your modem, so they can't trace it to your room unless they know your inside local IP, which even now can be changed easily.

And what he meant by archive was that every post that you delete or edit, the original is still stored, and all the admins and mods can see it (yes, even here on CF).

Ma way to go Omega, here's the illegal professional hacker :D:P
He knows all the tricks and stuff!
( no offense heh, just joking :))

Haha, I bet he's like "Oh, thank god!" :P

Just kidding! :D

Hehe, it's certainly not a good way to come and post it here :D
We here can see your IP and if we hear on radio or if Interpol posts on internet: Searching for a pedo, this is the IP!
Then we will give you away for some money hehe...

Just joking, hey, really if you are not a pedo, you are 100% anonymous!

Damn, I'm repeating myself...

How do you change your inside local IP? I live in an apartment room and I share a modem with at least four other people on the same floor as me. Would I have the same IP as the people in the other rooms?

I moved a couple of months back. Before I was living in another shared house and shared the modem with others in that different house- would my IP have been different then to what it is now?

I heard there is some IP blocking software, anyone know how i get it?

Ok so if what you say is true and all my posts even if deleted are in the archives, but only the administrators can see it right? Not anyone on the internet, right? The guy who told me my posts had been archived, and not to bother deleting them was just another poster like me with an anonymous username. I will delete as much as I can though and ask the administrator to delete the thread as well.

My issue is more a case of getting fired at my job than legal i think. And he knows my employer. Knows my nationality and height. Not my name though. If i do what i said i planned to do in three months i am worried about my employers finding me out.

If you have access to the router, you can easily change the IP scheme of the network. If not, then doing an ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew (in the command prompt) might change your IP if you are setup to use DHCP. And everyone who has a device connected to the network will have their own separate local IP address.

Yes, if you moved then your old modem IP would have stayed and you would have a new external IP from your new modem, and the inside IP address are irrelevant as the majority of people in the world are using a 192.168.x.x network address.

There are, which work when browsing sites and such, although we can't talk about it here. But heres a hint, use Google.

It depends how the forum is setup, but usually the admins and moderators can see edited/deleted posts. But not other members of that forum or random people online.

Yeah not sure what to do next- maybe just ask the moderator to delete everything that I posted and ask if my posts where archived.

Does the IP blocking software stop other individuals from knowing your IP address even the moderators?

Whatever you've been posting...it seems that you're panicking. A perfect criminal always retains control over himself and never loses his cool :P

No you can't have duplicate IP's in a LAN.
Nothing else can I answer, no...

Yes it stops them seeing your real IP address, they see the IP you currently have; which is changed by the program.
I think we really can't help you more on that place.
