Had a laptop for three years, and just bought myself an
HP Workstation XW8000. I have yet to even start it, I bought it used from a friend in the engineering dept. @ FORD.
Im getting my wireless network card this week, and want to play UT2004 and maybe some newer games on it. I have an additional budget of about $600, what would you guys purchase and intsall for gaming. I dont need anything ultra fancy....just want to be able to play some of the newest games online if I have the urge.

According to the sticker on the back it has the following;

CPU: (2) Xeon 3.2 GHZ
Memory: 3072
D1: 73
Graphics: Quadro FX 2000

Any suggestions to help a new PC owner get online with some gameplay would be more than appreciated, thanks.

Sure, well firstly your gonna need a different graphics card if you want to game, because from what i have read that card is for workstations not for playing games. You will need to check if u have a PCI-E or AGP video card slot. Plus im not too sure how well that CPU will work for gaming :s

It was $200 with a monitor. I got it up and put windows on it. It plays UT2004 on its highest settings multiplayer very smooth...wooooo. (I know not that big of a feat...) I didnt think it would be this good online. So im going to start building my list, any suggestions as far as a decent card?

That's a server. Not a gaming PC.

I wasnt trying to guy it for gaming, just want the option of playing some games online. So do you thin I could host multiplayer games on UT2004? Im a total noob, if that possible what would I have to do?

If you're just hosting with a standalone client, not really playing at all... then probably.

Otherwise, go to www.newegg.com and look up: MSI 8800GTS G92 512MB

$215 after rebates. HELLUVA steal.
