Well they have this in the cases/cooling etc section and i think it would be nice to have it here aswell

Can people give names to good and bad Manufacturers of mobos?

Ill update the list as we go on

The better 5 or 6 brand names to consider usually turn out being Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Abit, DFI, and eVGA. Crud names like Asrock and ECS are at the other end while Foconn and a few others are somewhere inbetween.

Foxconn is actually pretty high end, they are the OEM for many manufactures such as Asus and Gigbyte, alot of people underestimate them. So far they have been very successful with boards Such as the Foxconn Mars and the upcoming Foxconn BlackOps X48.

Asus is known as the World's best motherboard manufacturer.

Antec for PSU as it's very popular and I've heard great reviews from it.

Nvidia for EXTREME Gaming VGA's. (ATi is falling behind!)

Asus is know as the World worse Vdroop manufacture :P

Asus has always been one of the favored brands for gamers! The one thing now seen on the latest boards coming out solves one typical problem seen regardless of make or model namely bad caps!

The newer boards are now starting to see solid state rather then liquid type capacitors on them. Some of those are Asus as well as other brands which will be a good thing for everyone for the most part.

Well I hate to tell you PCeye but your EVGA board there is made by Foxconn, so is XFX. Ever wonder why EVGA and XFX boards look just alike. There was a model of AM2 590 chipset that all there were copies of each other.

I know Foxconn makes alot of stuff for people, everything from the Xbox to the iPod and alot of OEM boards for computer manufactures even Leadtek is really Foxconn but I,ve never heard of them making Asus or Gigabyte boards. Show me a link on this?

anyone know of good chinese brands. I mean just about everything seems to come out of Shenzhen ( the city that borders hong kong) and Taiwan.

I've had 2 Gigabyte boards, one AMD, the other one Intel. I've been very happy with both, but overclocking on the AMD one was a little difficult. According to ThatGuy16 as well as other sources, the Intel (I have the P35-DS3L) OCs good. I'd suggest Gigabyte.

Yeah, foxconn does make evga and xfx boards. They don't "make" asus and gigabyte's boards, but they do make most of the parts on the boards for the manufacture. Take a look at some asus and gigabyte boards, you'll find a few foxconn branded parts on there, mostly their sockets.

From here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foxconn

Motherboards
Foxconn designs and manufactures several different motherboards, with many being sold to OEM distributors such as Dell and HP. Starting in 2003 the company has produced retail boards under its own brand name. Foxconn also makes PGA/ZIF sockets used by other OEMs such as ASUS.

I must say, they make rock solid boards.

Well theres a little bit of difference in Asus or maybe Gigabyte buying Sockets from there supplier and Foxconn made them to being (most) of there parts.

If you look at various gigabyte and asus boards, you will find quite a few foxconn branded parts. Why does it even matter

I dont know why it matters, you said it. I knew Foxconn supplied parts but never heard of them supplying to Gigabyte. Just want to know where you got your info. from, just asked. I,ve installed alot of Gigabyte boards and never noticed Foxconn markings on anything.

Edit. After looking around it turns out that Foxconn did make some models of Gigabyte boards at one time, dont know if they still do but they sure did at one time.

It's called "outsourcing" if you have ever heard the term. Foxconn is more of a components supplier while still offering a few models with their brand name stamped on them. These companies order components from various other manufacturers and simply setup their own assembly plants. When you have one bad supplier of parts you go to another.

I bought a barebone system that included a Foxconn motherboard in July 2007. The motherboard fried within 45 days of use (I did not overclock any of my components). I shipped it back for replacement under warranty. The motherboard has functioned decently since it was replaced.

My only complaint against the Foxconn 6100K8MA-RS (Winfast C51MCP51) motherboard model now is how sensitive it is with RAM. You have to have the exact same model of RAM if you are using more than one module of memory. I tried a 512 megabyte Super Talent module with my 2 gigabytes of Super Talent and it wouldn't work because my motherboard rejected it. But I've also heard complaints against Asus motherboards for how weird they act with RAM as well.

PCeye if you had read the posts that has already been gone over (Common Knowledge).

You seem to be just finding that out. :P I knew that long before the 2004 article on bad caps ever came out.

The cause...
This inferior and flawed electrolyte formula was used by a number of component manufacturers that sold to many different, reputable, and well known motherboard manufacturers. This problem isn't isolated to one particular brand of motherboard, and not even isolated to motherboards alone. I won't mention brands, but a VERY popular monitor manufacturer has been plagued with RMA's on some of their monitors that were built using these inferior capacitors. This problem has been reported in computer motherboards, monitors, televisions, radios, and stereo equipment. Through my experiences owning a service center, I've personally seen and serviced a large number of 'high-end' equipment that had prematurely failed capacitors. http://www.badcaps.net/pages.php?vid=4
