I had a elderly lady bring me a computer today and said she was playing a card game on it and it let out a loud boom.

I havent tried to power it up,she said it would not power up.Its pretty clean on the inside.no big signs of dust in the proccessor or the MB.No black markings to suggest something blew up.

I pulled the HD and it seems to be working fine in a external drive.

Any suggestions where to start?Power supply?

Look closely at the board, a blow capacitor is normally pretty obvious. If you don't see anything, my guess is that its the power supply.

So its the power supply or a capacitor on the mother board???

Ive got a good power supply that came off another computer.Should I try it first?

The power supply contains capacitors, too. Probably about 4x the size of any on the motherboard... I was speaking of the capacitors in the PSU.

Look for a blown capacitor on the motherboard, if you dont see any try another power supply
