heya guys

i posted a topic about ram in the memory section and it turned out after buying 2gb worth of ram my mobo only takes up to 512mb ram. dam

im tryna use my computer to record bands and use a proper pro tools rig with a minimum of 4gb ram, does anyone know if emachines would sell me a bigger better mobo??

i know, id prefare to go with a better company like HP or dell or compaq or somethin but i rang dell and they dont sell motherboards unfortunatly.

wud anyone even know if companys sell mobos in the first place???

The supplires of prebuilt systems only replace boards while servicing systems under warranty. As pointed on the other thread you may as plan an entirely new build since a new board will also see the need for newer memory and cpu as well. Plus the supply found in those is typically less then you would need to the newer hardwares available.

yeah man ur right,

i was guna transfer all the hardware onto the new mobo anyways but ****it might aswell build fresh.

so say im guna build fresh then. where would i buy a brand spankin new mobo?

id have to buy windows for it wudnt i?

That depends if you want to stay with an ide or sata drive plus having more drive space available with the new drives seen now since the older model there came out. For recording whether audio or video one thing that you can run out of fast is drive space!

TigerDirect and newegg are two along with a few others like mwave. I found the board for the recent build here cheaper at mwave then the other two. Once you have a budget and an idea on the hardwares you need do some price shopping. That usually helps cost wise.

You can get all your parts at either:
www.newegg.com
or
www.tigerdirect.com
Those are the two I like/use anyway.

And you wouldn't have to buy windows unless you felt like upgrading, you could just put your old hard drive in the new computer.

You wouldn't be able to use a hard drive with an operating system on it already and put in a different system and expect it to work. Depending on the OS and version used, you most likely would have to purchase a new copy. Emachines come with an OEM version and if they even supply a reinstallation cd, but usually its just a recovery program.

Newegg doesn't while TigerDirect has a Canadien section. You should first list the vendors you can order from. The full install version of either XP or Vista will be needed for the new build as expected since any disks that came with the system there are branded and limited to that machine only.
