Hi
I wondered how much difference there is in speeds between
Athlon 64 X 2 6000
and a QUAD CORE 9.6Ghz Q6600
9500 QUAD CORE PHENOM

Noticed the athlon 64 prices have dropped, and as I am looking to buy a gaming pc wondered if it made much difference.

would the money be better spent say on a 8600 graphics card rather than an 8500 etc

Thanks
Nick
ps looking to play crysis?

my money would go towards the Q6600 or e8400 and a 8800gt if you can afford it. if you cant afford the q6600 and a 8800gt, then get something like the e6750 which is 100 bucks less.

fyi: the q6600 is a 2.4ghz processor not 9.6ghz. it has 4 cores that run at 2.4ghz...you don't add up the total.

the cheapest 8800 is the xfx 8800gs on newegg i believe. this would be a much better choice than a 8500 or 8600.

QUAD CORE 9.6Ghz Q6600 2GB/500GB & 8500GT 1GB!! & SHIN
16XPCI-E 8500GT 1024MB!, CORE2QUAD 9.6Ghz + Lightscribe

as advertised on ebay?
they are trying to trick u it is a quad core @2.4GHz they might be one of those people who think u add the speed for every core making people think it is faster 9.6 / 4 = 2.4 so they have deffently just added all the speeds together for every core

lolz yeah thats what exactly i was thinking.

many people are butt crack with greed all over their face.

btw 8500s and 8600s is a no no for gaming... well 8600GTS is a bit ok though.

both are good

If your on budget AMD single cores are best

Otherwise core 2 duos are the best atm

E1200 is a great budget dual core CPU. Celeron, yes, but based offa the C2D architecture. IMO it shouldn't be compared with the Netburst Celerons, but the C2Ds.
