Upgrading Memory

You might get a bit more performance from benchmarks but don't expect to see much/any difference otherwise.

Since I saw this thread.... I've got a HP PIII 766 Mhz w/ 196 MB SDRAM PC100 (128 stick, 1 64 stick ) running xp. Wondering if its worth it to upgrade the memory since i've noticed some lag. The board can take 3 DIMMS, 768 MB Max. Will upgrading from 196MB to 512 or 768 make much difference?

Should I get 2 sticks of 256, plus the 128 for 640 MB total, or go for 3 256 sticks? thanks. also, would it matter if i get pc133 even though my board takes pc100?

i would think anytime you add more memory you would see a little performance gain...sense i wrote this thread i have added 1066 memory.. in real world i see little change..but on benchmarks shows up...:) in your case i would add some ..

upgrading from 196 to 512 or 768 will boost up your system heaps! But on the other hand, it might be worth more getting a new computer altogether...

He already has 4GB, he's talking about upgrading to DDR2 1066 RAM.

You would get more performance getting high quality DDR2 800, and lowering the timings.

well, if getting a new computer was only 30 bucks then i would do it... b/c that is what 2-3 sticks of 256 SDRAM's are going for on ebay.
