3870x2 or Dual 8800GT

yeah i would say the dual 3870X2

but dont you think its a bit of an overkill?

i would think just one alone is plenty of power to run most of todays games on high.

and whatever you save from not buying another card to crossfire/sli you could put towards when you find your gfx card needs upgrading again.

thats just the way i see it but you might dissagree with me :)

Nevakonaza ;)

Single card= 8800GT

Dual card= 2x 3870's or 3870X2.

I'll say the 3870X2

Can't you crossfire with two 8800GT's or am I wrong?

EDIT: Sorry SLI... thanks

In my opinion overkill would be TWO 3870x2's ... rofl that would be insane. Not to mention expensive... $800+

But yeah I might stick with one 3870

What motherboard do you have, or getting?

This is how it goes. A single 8800GT slighly beats a 3870. But two 3870's in Crossfire beats two 8800GT's in SLI. And two 3870's slightly outperform a single 3870X2.

It all boils down to what motherboard you have or get. For crossfire, you want the X38 motherboard.

If you are questioning going dual GPUs on lower end nice cards (budget) then I would recommend neither. In comparison to the amount of additional performance you will see the price double is not worth it.

My performance doubled. Everything. If you have the money, its worth it.

I would say the 3870x2 as well, bad ass card. I may get one in a few months unless something better comes out.

I purchesed the 8800 GS and it is really loud, would you suggest getting the 8800 GT instead to have a more quiet card? Not only for the sound dfference but the performance as well...
