Ordering a motherboard from Newegg.com

I haven't decided on a particular motherboard or whether i'm gonna buy it from Newegg.com, yet. First, i need to know if the "Open Box' motherboards include the Rear I/O shield plate. Because when you view images of a mobo, it says the item does NOT include accessories. Surely, the Rear I/O panel is NOT an accessory, right? I mean, who'd buy a mobo without it?

It does have a warning (on Tigerdirect anyway) that some parts (ie: the I/O Panel) may be missing. I am unsure as to newegg.

Newegg.com has that warning, too. After chatting with tech support, they didn't give a clear "yes" or "no" whether it comes with the I/O panel or not. I'm wondering, as i'm sure some members here have ordered from Newegg, did the 'Open box" mobo come with the I/O panel?

In my opinion with a motherboard I would never buy a open box or refurbished. The last thing you need is a problem with your main part/motherboard.

I've bought a few open box items which actually included everything, from the manual and drivers to the SATA cables, however my friend ordered an open box motherboard which didn't come with anything else but the motherboard.

So it's really the luck of the draw. You may be able to find the I/O panel on eBay.

Jeepers, the motherboard is the foundation. Why would you want to skimp on that?
It's not necessarily "skimping" on the motherboard, it's just a way to save money if you don't want/need all the cables, documentation, or CD's.

I've never had an issue using open box items on Newegg before.

Open box items are often returns, etc. Warranty items. I've had a mixed bag of success with them. On peripherals it's ok. The motherboard? I wouldn't leave that to chance. Just as you don't build a house on sand, you shouldn't take shortcuts with your mainboard. At least that's the way I look at it.

You do take that chance by ordering an open box motherboard, sometimes you may get lucky and it will just be a motherboard that someone returned because it was the wrong socket or something, while others may have malfunctioning components. At least Newegg offers a brief warranty on open box items.

Yeah, that's the hidden cost. It costs money to RMA a product. Unless Newegg pays for the return shipping (do they?) and compensates you for time lost (which they no doubt don't), your savings are gone. To me it's not worth the frustration and costs.. But, that's just me. :)

I agree...I'd rather spend a little more and have the satisfaction of knowing that my product is new and (most likely) in 100% working condition with all of the accessories included).
