Here's the main specs for what I plan on getting, hoping that the local store has the stuff in stock that it says online:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ (125W) Dual-Core Socket AM2, 3.2GHz, 1MB x2 L2 Cache, 2000MHz HT, 90nm
<or>
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition Dual-Core Socket AM2, 2.6GHz, 512KB x2 L2 Cache, 2000MHz HT, 65nm, WOF (and overclock this)

Not too sure which to go with, any input would be great. I realize I would need a heat sink/fan for the black edition.

MoBo: Asus M2N-E Socket AM2 nForce 570 Ultra MCP Chipset DDR2 533/667/800 6xSATA PCI-Express x16 Slot 7.1 Channel Audio Gigabit Lan AMD Live! Ready

Sound: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.1 Surround 24 Bit 96KHz EAX2.0 Sound Card (OEM)

Then a case and some fans and a network card. Comes out to about 750ish. I can get Vista Business for $25, or XP Professional SP2 for Free, so I don't know which to get. Let me know what you think, I'm open to all suggestions as this is the first computer I have ever planned to build.
 
If you go for black edition, remember to buy CPU fan

MB: Go for those AMD 7XX Chipset which support AM2+ socket.
 
So something like:

Asus M3A Socket AM2+ AMD 770 Chipset + ATI SB600 Dual Channel DDR2 1066/800/667 1x PCI-Express x16 2.0 4x SATA 3Gb/s 8-Ch HD Audio GigaLAN 10x USB2.0

would be more suitable???
 
Not bad...

Go for the MSI 8800GTS G92. $215 after rebates...

And Corsair XMS2 2GB DDR2-800 CL4 kit. $34 after rebates.
 
Try to get an Intel build with E6750

6400+ consume a lot of power, doesn't overclock very well, and it performs than Intel CPU clock for clock

I've never overclocked before....is it ver difficult to get it up clock to clock with the 6400+??? And would I have to spend more money getting a better CPU cooler than the stock??

im ontario. You would have to spend more money on a better cooler thent he stock CPU fan if you were to overclock. I dont see a point in overclocking that CPU its already at 3.2GHz
 
can you not private message in this forum?? anyways, I'm in Waterloo, if you're near by I might be interested in it......i went to buy all the stuff today....only thing they didnt have in stock was the MoBo hahaha
 
you will also need a small pint of 2% milk. you need to dip the SATA chords in there (not the tips) before installing them. this will give them more heat resistance.
 
lol milk? never heard of that before... Im in Oshawa thats like an hour and a bit away. I can ship it to you or w.e you cant PM you need a minimum of 100 posts
