PC Games Lagging

I'm playing computer games on a notebook and it's been lagging a bit. I was wondering if I should buy an external memory system. Do you think that would help? If so, what kind would you recommend? I saw the brand My Book, I was wondering if that was a good brand and if so what type?
 
No, that won't help. It is probably because your graphics card is insufficient or perhaps your processor.
 
Adding a hdd won't do anything but give you more storage space.

It can be that' theres not sufficient ram memory or the gpu or the cpu.

Whats' your laptops specs, and what games are you playing?
