I've got a PIII 766 Mhz HP w/ onboard video and with 196 MB RAM SDRAM PC100. It maxes out at 768MB, 3 slots. Just order 3 256 MB sticks. Any predictions on the increase in performace I will see? I'm excited, got the 3 sticks for 30 bucks on ebay.. i know it is a pathetic system by today's standards... but its all i have.

it's been slow multi tasking between playing music and surfing.. thanks.

you should notice some difference. i would think not that much seeing as your cpu is really slow. thats whats holding you back mostly.

What version of Windows or OS are you running there? For 98 the 512mb limitation will come up. For any newer version you should notice a slight benefit once you start running the usual programs.

im running xp pro

That gets you past the old 512 barrier seen with the older Fat based versions! :P

You'll immediately notice a gain once the 768 total is seen there. Windows will seem to load a little faster plus run smoother. That will like what was seen here on an old build going from 1gb upto 2gb with both Home and Pro editions.

well since i put 768 RAM into her, she is running VERY smooth. i'm so glad i did this for 30 bucks. it runs so much better since i run a few browsers at a time, along w/ music. the swap file must be alot smaller now since there is no delay!!!

You'll now see that you can also get a lot more done by simply seeing that extra memory in as well as an overall increase in system stability. When first moving up from 1gb to 2gb on one older build here it was an immediate attention grabber at how XP then. I pondered on 4gb for the current build but will wait for Windows 7 more then likely coming in 2010.

yeah anything can run xp. but its horrible to use. like basic stuff is alright. itunes opening time is horrible hahaa

My friend doesn't have an iPod and doesn't use iTunes :P

If she hadn't shelled out the money for a new hard drive, I coulda kept it and used it for web surfing. Sad to say I was disappointed. At least it gets me a few brownie points closer to a girlfriend!

The earliest dual core was the Intel Core Duo. But I thought that saw a faster speed since Intel had always focused on cpu clock speed prior to the Core 2 lineup.
