PCI-Express x16 2.0 and how it relates to Nvidia cards with the G92 core

Hello all. Correct me if I'm worong but I believe the PCI-Express x16 2.0 interface is out now and it's twice as fast. I forget the standard of measurement but it went from like 2.5 to 5.0. Now I know 2.0 is backwards compatible with 1.0 but do you need a 2.0 specific graphics card to take advantage of the increaded speed? If so the nVidia cards that are PCI-Express 2.0 are the 8800GT and the 8800GTS's with the G92 core is this correct? I am thinking about running two 8800GTS G92's in SLI and a 780i chipset with the 2.0 to take advantage of it. Thanks in advance. :)

did you just want us to correct you? looks like you got your stuff in order, those GTS's should serve you well
 
there is really no difference between the two.

I had a 2.0 board with a phenom with that card.

When i built a new setup with what you see in my sig with a standard pcix16 board i actually got a huge raise in frames. It really depends on your ram and cpu to see how well your gpu performs.

Well I did read up on it, I just wanted to make sure everything was right before I placed the order. :) What I wanted to make sure of is that you needed the PCI 2.0 interface to take advantage of the G92 cored cards and their 2.0 interface. There are a lot of boards with the 680i LT SLI chipset and some were temptimg but it didn't offer the 2.0.

I will be running an E6850 hopefully overclocked, 2GB of DDR2-1066 Corsair Dominator, an eVGA board with the 780i chipset, and two 8800GTS G92's in SLI. Now theoretically those cards on this 780i 2.0 board would outperform two original 8800GTS's with the original PCI-E 1.0 interface correct?

Theoretically yes.

But nothing that you will notice. Don't let all those terms get to your head. 2.0 isn't faster, it just sends the information in a different way.

Oh, Okay. That's cool though...I'm sure I'll be happy with the C2D and the 8800GTS's none the less...I'm looking forward to it. Thanks for all of your help.

The interface itself is faster, but if you don't have a card that can use the extra bandwidth, then it is pointless, but two 8800GTS should see some improvement over the PCI-E x16.

How about a single 8800GTS G92?

I am about to go from a PCI-E x16 to a 2.0 (Along with other parts though).
