Hello, I want to buy a new pc, and I also want to play the latest games on it. But I don't like having to pay 2500 bucks for it. I don't have that much money. The pc I have right now is really bad, so I really need a new one. I know Linux, and I can get to know it very well, someone at my school gives Linux-courses. Because of that I have another option. A PlayStation 3, dualbooted with Linux, it will be both a game console and a pc, just like a high end pc. Only bad thing is that I can't run Windows stuff, but if I really want that Windows stuff, I can install it on my own pc. Else I can install a Linux counterpart, so I don't care about it. Only thing I still wanna know, will it be good to make a PlayStation 3 with Linux my new pc I will use most of the time, or is my own PC better.

These are my specs:eek::
Celeron:( D 360 (3,46GHz)
1,5 GB (PC4200:o)
And most evil of all: Onboard videocard Radeon Xpress 200 with 256mb of my RAM memory shared!!!!!

My harddisk is 140 GB, that's lots bigger than that of a PS3, but I don't care about that either.

I'm using Vista, and I'm too lazy to move all my files (I have only 40GB free memory, and I just deleted all unnecessairy files, so they're with many), and install a new OS.

I will still use my PC for downloading, because I will need lot's of free space for that.

I can't give you a definate answer about the speed, but something makes me thing the PS3 with Linux would be faster. I suggest you get the Ubuntu Linux alternate CD (the guide provides a link to the ISO file, but please note: it is VERY important that you get the PPC/PS3 alternate CD that is linked to in the guide) and set it up on your PS3 using this guide http://psubuntu.com/installation-instructions/

It's worth a shot! The worst that can happen is that you'll have to remove Ubuntu and start over.

As far as Windows stuff goes, you can try Wine (a windows emulatro for linux.) It's not perfect, but it works with some stuff.
