Just upgraded 196MB to 768MB RAM..predictions?

You bent the cpu pins? :eek: ! You are now probably only seeing one core running constantly at 800mhz explaining why Windows is still running at all. I saw one video on a conference where only the kernel from Vista was loaded. You'll never guess how little memory was needed for that. Try under 40mb!
 
Maybe this sounds dumb, are you sure its not Cool'n'quiet making it clock down to 800MHz?

Congratulations on the upgrade, those old P3 computers on XP were the good days! *Remembers old Celeron 700MHz*

Nope, after this happened I turned off cool'n'quiet (one of the FEW things my crap motherboard can do)
 
If you are seeing both cores running are you sure you are not looking at the fsb instead of the cpu speed? Either that or something in the bios is now lower then it should be.
 
Both cores are running, windows task manager/performance monitor (whatever you want to call it) shows graphs for 2 cores, and CPUZ detects both of them.
 
A 2.6ghz cpu running at 800mhz wouldn't even be doing much unless the voltages were lowered down below requirements for some reason. Unclocking still wouldn't account for that large of a drop in cpu speed since that would still be over 1.5ghz anyways on that fast of a model.
 
It won't hurt to try loading the optimized defaults to see if the bios is being a little flaky on you. If the cpu isn't going bad on you it could be time to update the bios if that was goofed up you somehow or reveal a board fault. Another idea would be seeing what is shown for overall votages in case the supply is being pulled down.
 
Reset Cmos, updated bios, nothing. Still at 800MHz...

I'll probably just buy a new CPU to hold me over until the Q9450 comes out soon (new build) and rumor has it that it won't be out until mid June (in which case I'll be pissed).
 
Since you are waiting almost 3 months you will have to decide there if you want to spend now for a cpu you will be replacing in a short time. If you end up doing that you may want to run that for a good period of time and let the prices come down somewhat on that line of cpus.
