Ok so right now I have Vista Home Premium Installed and I just bought a 2gb flash drive and have an extra XP Disk. I know you can boot from usb but how? Can I boot from the usb and leave my current hard drive in and have no problems with loosing things on my hard drive? Also, what about drivers? I have no floppy drive.

OK,

Put the USB into the computer put the xp disc in.... go through the installation and when it askes you what hard drive select the USB.

then when you put in the computer change the bios to what you want it to boot off.

Done.

If i get vista i'm going to do that but with my external hard drive :P

Ok thats what I thought but what about drivers? Can I just download them on the vista machine but install them onto the usb? Also, could I leave my hard drive unplugged so there is no chance of something messed up on my hard drive?

Well in the way of drivers..... i'm not sure download them off the vista machine and then install them on the USB..... now when you go to install XP maybe (just in case) unplug the hard drive so nothing happens to it and then go from there.

How would that be possible? Then I wouldnt be running vista. I think the way I meantioned should work. The only drivers I really need are for my graphics and for the dvd drive right? I will only be using XP for games probably but, even so I will need another hard drive to put the game on.

you need drivers for your dvd drive? i dont. the only drivers i ever need are the graphics ones.

One more question. What if I leave the sata connected, can I run a program off of that hard drive but while I am on XP (the usb)? If not, then I could just go out and buy another flash drive or usb hard drive to use.

No.... you need to have the program install under XP. And can't really be runned off another USB.

i would buy an external hard drive and use that

Alright so I guess the XP on flash drive is just gonna be for kicks! There should be a little space left on the flash drive to do something with though! I'll prob end up getting a usb hard drive sometime.

are you limited to the space on the usb drive when you boot another os off it like that? can you still use space on other drives? how does that work?

I dont think you understand. I am booting Vista right now off of a sata 320gb hard drive and I am going to be booting XP off of a USB flash drive. XP takes under 1gb so that wont be a problem. Someone said earlier that I would have to unplug me existing hdd b/c only vista would be able to read stuff off of it.
