Hey i have a question to you guys out there...... I have a dell inspiron 9400, nothing too fancy, that my uncle got for me. It only has 512mb ram, and an onboard graphics allotment of 224mb. If i increase the ram to 2gb, can i increase the onboard graphics to use a higher amount????

If so, can someone let me know how. Thanks

Yeah, you could do that but onboard graphics will not do well with games no matter how much RAM you have.

Exactly, VRAM is a supporting spec, not one that dictates performance. The GPU (card) itself is the decisive specification.

Thanks, I figured as much. I'll still drop in the 2gb tho, just for piece of mind cuz the 512 just doesnt cut it. Can i upgrade the Graphics Media accelerator? Right now the accelerator in use is : -

Mobile Intel(R) 945GM

very well put.

anyways the odds are you do not have an AGP or PCI-E slot on your motherboard, so something like a GeForce 6200LE 256mb would do well, the one in my HP lets me play video's up to resolutions of 1440/900 and it never lags.

yeah, it is a laptop, but i know that some of the dell laptops can be upgraded. Just wasn't sure if this was one of em. Im a bit of a gamer, so i think i might just end up getting a new laptop if this can't do the job. (and i really don't think it could)

I think your right. Do some searching....... or chat with a Dell tech. I've done it with an old Dell laptop and they were very nice to converse with. Maybe you can get a nice card in there!
