RAM Suggestions

Hey guys, Just wondering what you guys suggest as far as RAM, what the best deal will be. Im going for 4GB (preferably 4x1GB sticks)

I have chosen a couple that I think would be best, but please, if you feel you know of a better set, please post it! :)

Crucial Ballistix (x2)

Patriot

Im not sure if I really need the heat sinks or not, i'll be doing a LOT of gamming and multi-tasking. Basically a little bit of just about everything really.
Will I have any type of over-heating problems? Im planning on getting this set-up (but may be changing a few things here and there):

Thanks for any help in advance :)

Apparently you have never heard of the 3gb barrier seen with the 32bit kernel. Most intending to run a system with 4gb or more of memory are going wiht a 64bit edition of Vista not XP MCE 32bit as seen in your sig.

With 4gb installed on a Vista 32bit with SP1 now out the full amount will be seen while still not available in Windows. As far as which brand Crucial has a long time rep for gaming while Patriot is no budget brand.

They both have the same voltage and timming, with the rebates I would go with 2 sets of the Crucial. Why not go with 2 sticks of 2gbs.

PC Eye, Actually if you would have looked at the third link (my wishlist of things I will be getting for my new build) includes 64-bit Vista Home Premium. This is NOT for the comp in my sig ;)
I had already known about the 3.75GB cap on 32-bit which is why I got the 64.

Stranglehold- The only reason I havnt consitered getting 2 sticks of 2GB is because thats double the power/heat comming out of each stick, which I would think would be harder to keep cool. Plus, I wont be putting a total of 8GB into my computer anyway, so 4GB will be my max, and I would rather fill up all 4 slots.
I'll most likley stick with the Crucial Ballistix unless sombody can show me somthing better (at a reasonable price)

Thank you both for the help and input, it's greatly appriciated :)

The problem with the link is obvious since you posted a link to your shopping cart and not the product page.

On the next build if not on this one the next version of Windows will see a 64bit edition go on since XP will have waned out by then. For the build here I had pondered on running 4gb but not whether to go with Vista Ultimate 64.

For memory the price climbs a little as well as the 2.1v seen on the OCZ Reaper memory seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227278

If you are worried about 2gb dimms being twice as warm as a pair of 1gb dimms four 1gb dimms would equal the pair of 2gb dimms in that sense.

i read somewhere on these forums that having 2x2gb sticks would be better, supposedly it is *easier* on tha memory controller. I would suggest Patriot. great company. i didnt look at ur links but the EP line is amazing.

Even with four 1gb dimms you are running matched sized pairs. If a dimm goes bad you still end up with 3gb of working memory over 2gb with a pair seeing one removed.

Memory that runs on a lower voltage will run cooler temp wise as well as conserve while four dimms over two will still see a higher demand. Larger rather then additional is generally the option that see better performance however.

I'd go for the Ballistix, I've got mine running at 1.8v (stock should be 2.2v) @ 800MHz.

They stay nice 'n cool :)
