network interface problem

I need help with fixing a comp. I went over to a friend (hot girl, 0 knowledge of comps) to help her fix the wrecked comp. I reinstalled windows clean +office but i couldn't fix the network. she connects with a weird PPPoE connection with username and pass.

I configured the connection but it gave this error:769 destination could not be reached. Talked to the operator at the help line and he said the NIC was disabled.
I checked and there was indeed a problem with the network card. I could not install it. Search for new hard ware doesn't find anything, windows didn't ask me to configure it during installation etc.

I looked in the device manager list and there was no NIC indeed. I looked and there are 3 posible things that could be the network board, not sure if any on these are related to the ethernet card that i cant find: and unknown device, a PCI bridge(doubt it) and a PCI simple communication controller or something( can this be the network interface?), both with a ? over a yellow background. I clicked update driver on each because they are not working properly but i cant find any on the cd she had(which was from the motherboard) nore on the hdd.

I turned the comp around and the UTP was entering the comp near the USB ports and that is why i think it could be an on board card. There are no leds at all around it. Could the network adapter gotten burned or something?:) It is difficult to decide what to do since i have no knowledge of the interface (dunno what network interface it is, got no CD with drivers etc). If i knew what device it is i could search for drivers and mule them with a mem stick.
But if it;s the drivers fault shouldn't it find it when i ask it to search for new hardware?Or why doesn''t it show it as not functional?

Can someone help me pls?:D
If i mule a Sisoft sandra with stick could it find the network interface?

I also tried to use a ubuntu live cd to see if i can get the network running but while it was loading the monitor went blank and showed a message about signal exeeded and some frecv intervals lol...real bad day for computeing.

The graphics card also has no proper drivers, when i move a window around its laggy and leaves a trail. It's an nvidia, dunno anything else about it:) Unusual for XP not to give drivers for network or for nvidia. If i know what happened with the network interface and get connected i can get a driver from the nvidia website. The realproblem is how to get the netwrok interface running since i can;t even find it...

Thank you.

I know you don't want to hear this, but this has to be the longest post I have ever seen. If you want people to help you, shorten your question and have some spaces between every few lines.

Ok i editet it. You were probably right about to much text in one chunk. Now it should be easy to read.

So...what should i do? open the comp? buy a new nic?

If the NIC does not show up in Device Manager... either it died somehow... or

Yeah i got the feeling it died, and i also think it is not in a pci slot it is an on board crap board. Don''t seem to find nay software solution so ithink i must open the damn comp, The sound is also not working, could there be a connection?

Wait... when you say it doesn't show up (NIC) in Device Manager, do you mean that you don't see a "Network Controller/Cards" tab?

Look at the items with the ! mark on them. They need drivers... or have a hardware/software conflict.

I fixed most of the problmes buy gettin a new nic and installing it.
Then i could get some programs to scan the comp an idetify the motherboard, asrock k8 upgrade nf3 something. I got nvidia nforce unified drivers and reinstalled everything on the motherboard except for the sound. I also fixed the graphics card by identifying it and getting drivers. The former nic also started working lol.

The only thing not working is the sound card.
Anyone can help?
the nforce that fixed the nic and the other motherboard components had audio drivers. first time it gave me an error cause i got no directx 9. So i installed directx9 and tried again. It gave no error, but still no sound card available.
Tried some other nforce drivers and something i got from a website with drivers for that motherboard and still nothing.
If the nic worked why won't the sound card work?is it screwed? It is an on board card. I see a multimedia audio device in the manager but it has ''!" like it doesnt have drivers, but i got drivers as written above.
I heardabout conflict but i dunno what conflict the sound could be in with.
