Two questions from a COMPLETE novice

Hello

First question: I have an old hotmail account that I don't use anymore. Is there any way I can shut it down so it doesn't receive emails anymore and can't be used. I don't need it and have a new one now.

Also, I often search on My Computer for certain files etc. The problem with this is every time I do a new search I get a drop down list of all the searches I've done before which is very annoying. Is there anyway I can delete this history?

#1 Dont worry about an old email address...just dont go to it anymore! I have about a 100 of them but I can only remember the address and password for 2 of them. The other 98? Who cares!

#2 Download ccleaner that should clear any dropdown menues.

Thanks for the ccleaner tip. The thing is I want to make sure I JUST erase that and nothing else, its a shared computer and I don't want to rub out something that belongs to someone else.

As far as the email address is concerned, I really would like to shut it down completely, its a long story! :)

Any tips?
 
When you log in to your email account look around the webpage, there should be a link for account management or options or edit profile, something to that effect, and when you click it, you should be presented with the option to shutdown your account.

Mine is a hotmail account, is there a standard way of cancelling their accounts, I suppose hotmail is the most common type.

After the account's been inactive for a month, all the messages will be wiped, and the addy will be available for anyone to use.

I also wanted to add the CCleaner is very gentle, it's not the most effective tool out there but it's 99.99% safe to use, this going with both the unnecessary files and registry cleaner. Nothing important will be deleted (unless some dimwit saves his/her documents in the temp folder...those people have come across a few times)

Does that mean it is impossible to just cancel an account? You have to wait for a period of inactivity to pass?
