hi people,

iv recently been asked to install these auto updates and one is for a windows service pack 3. however, half way through the install it stops and asks for the micro works disc, which i dont have. it also suggest finding something called the wordret.msi, which i have no idea about as computers arent really my thing im afraid. would anyone kno how to get this update to either be completed or go away.

also, upon turning my comp on, i am always asked to install something called "net" which i assume has something to do witht the internet as it has the same symbol as my Ralink wireless card. any clues as to why and how to again, either stop it or solve it.

cheers for any help people.

The file it's looking for is for Microsoft Word. It either comes with Microsoft Works or Microsoft Office.

What you need to do is use the Windows Installer Cleanup utility, then do a reinstall of the particular suite.

for some reason when i follow the link to install the windows installer cleanup, my computer thinks its a malicious program n norton stops it from running?

That's because Norton is a piece of crap. Tell Norton to allow it, disable the protection temporarily, or do yourself a huge favor and get rid of it altogether with this tool.

right then , its let me install it. so now i need to reinstall microsoft works?or word?

i must be a nightmare, complete computer muppet, lol

ok, so now that iv got the windows installer cleaner ready, will it simply uninstall my works and word or will it auto reinstall them both?
