Messed up HD

I have a 120GB HD that hasn't been working for a while (it got corrupted from formatting once.) I'm trying to repair it and when I try to use the formatter on the Xubuntu alternate install CD it shows up as 1600TB!!! It would be REALLY nice (lol) if it was that big, but it's only 120GB, and when I try to format 100 GB of it (90 for root, 10 for swap (yes, I know that's WAY too much for swap)) it fails (it also fails trying to format all 1600TB.) What should I do? Thanks! :)

I don't know if it will run in wine but it's worth a shot, if not you can try zero filling it (dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hdx).

You could also try using the manufacturers drive utility to try to recertify it. They should have linux tools available.

Thanks Crome! :) It worked for a while and then once I booted Ubuntu and the were a bunch of read errors and it's back to not working. :P How can I fix this because if I were to zero fill again it'd just break again. I really need the HD functional because the only other one I have is 9GB. :P Thanks! :)
