i have a dell dimension 5150 and i was wondering if it could run a nvida 8800GT and does anyone have this in theirs? i havent added anything to this computer but its graphic card blows.

People say it can run a 8600GTS with no problems but i never asked about a 8800GT.dell has said the 5150 has a 300W PSU but that is just the median or some thing and it really has 400w.

also if anyone has any other cards that can run on my computer post a link.i have a price range of $200.

I would recommend buying a new PSU for the 8800gt, but for that P4. It would bottleneck quite a bit, if not as tragically now, moreso going forward. There's little doubt a 8600gts won't run on your current, so i would stick with that unless you're willing to upgrade.

figured out my problem it can def use the 8800GT as a couple of people have the same computer and everything as me and can run it perfect but i will upgrade the ram and PSU to since i will need it later on anyway.also will prolly not get vista for awhile since iv heard more problems then good, but that is just what i have heard.

You definately need to update your PSU.

i really dont feel like making another topic about upgrading my comp so i will ask here.

is upgrading a PSU hard or do you just unscrew your old and put in the new?do i need to know anything about my computer for picking a new PSU?

also i can spend up to about 90 bucks on a PSU maybe more but thats just a maybe.

Canvis, what are you system specs. Download PC Wizard and install it (from my sig). Then go to FILE, SAVE AS and click OK. Then save that text file and copy its contents into this thread.

btw, a psu upgrade is simple.

I've ran a 7900 in my Dell 9100 prior to this computer. It ran fine...till the card took a dump. Now...I'm running a 6800 in the Dell.

For your system i would recommend a HX520W from Corsair.

YOU CAN PUT AN 8800GT IN AN 8800GT WITHOUT UPDATING ANYTHING. Want to know how I know? Because I did it. Fools, all you have to do is buy the 8800GT which comes with an external power supply cord. Then buy an extension and plug it into the power supply. Then, like me, you can play Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Call of Duty: World at War.....ETC.

xx

8800GT 512 mb
3GB RAM
Pentium D rated @ 5.03 Ghz
Windows XP
Dell 19" Monitor

(Basically a 5150 with an 8800GT in it and 2GB more RAM)

Just because it works doesn't mean it's recommended.

Underpowering a graphics card can kill it.
