Building another computer

Hi guys,

Just built a computer with the specs:

Motherboard - Gigabyte EP35-DS3R - $149
CPU - Intel Q6600 - $275
RAM - 2GB Kingston RAM @ 800MHz - $51
HDD - Western Digital 320GB SATA - $82
Video Card - Gigabyte Nvidia 8600GT 512MB - $97
DVD Burner - Pioneer 20X SATA - $35
Case - Coolermaster Elite RC-332 - $69
Monitor - 22" 2ms ASUS - $318
Keyboard + Mouse - Logitech LX310 - $58

Another friend asked me to build the same build, was just wondering is there anything wrong with this current build? Could it be improved in some ways? Didn't really have any budget to stick to...

Well it does depend on what the pc will be used for m8, will your friend want to use it for gaming, video editing or other things but on the whole its okay.

Not really after a hardcore gaming machine, just something that will be able to run games for the next few years. Theres too much of a price difference between the 8600GT and the 8800GS (nearly $100 difference). Don't think they're willing to pay an extra $100 for just a tiny increase in graphics.

Depends what your friend doing with the PC.

CPU could consider Q9300/ E8400 or get Q6600 after price drop at the end of this month.

Motherboard could get the cheaper DS3L, depends on what feature he need, e.g. 1394/ more sata etc.

GPU: definately go for 8800GS. consider a 9600GT if you got extra $$

BTW, your price seems a little expensive...
 
Mm, thanks for the suggestions.
The CPU's suggested are too much of a price difference (+$100 for me)
Can anyone tell me why the 8800GS is better than the 8600GT? I'm not really good with this stuff.

The prices are from Australia, it's the best i can find.
 
take out the quad core for a budget system. putting in a really fast processor and a terribly slow graphics card isnt going to run games from next year, let alone a few years. get something as low or lower then an e6750, they play games just fine, and get an 8800GT or a 3870.

i can wholeheartedly guarentee you wont notice a huge difference in general tasks between the two processors.
