Fan Controller yes or no?

I am currently in the process of my first computer build.

-790i Ultra Motherboard
-9800 GX2
-Thermaltake Toughpower 850w Power Supply Unit
-Seagate 7200 250GB Hard Drive
-Samsung CD/DVD burner

What do fan controllers actually do? Obviously control the fans but is it necessary? Would the computer not automatically control the fans? Does that put more strain on the computer and would a controller eliminate an unnecessary process? What do I need to look for in a fan controller? Thank you for your time.
 
All fan does is regulate the air in the case, it is an independent component so it will not add to any of the cpu process.

I will only get fan controllers if the fan is very loud. but might as well just get a new fan that has sensor or controllers build it.

some fan has sensors so it will spin faster or slower depending on the internal temp of the case.
 
I am looking at the NZXT Tempest case with 2 intake 2 exhaust 1 side fan and a rear fan. I will also be getting an aftermarket heatsink and fan for the CPU. What you're saying ANNR is that the fans should already have sensors on them to regulate their speed regarding the temperatures that it senses? With a fan controller would that eliminate what the sensor does? Will that help in keeping everything cool?
 
the fans that come with the case most likely do not have the sensors built in. Basically what u need a fan controller for is that it regulated the voltage that the fans use, so in turn, speeding/slowing it down however u want. Fancontrollers (FC) are usually used to quiet down the comp. i have the solverstone ff52 and its fine for my needs. its not actually user configurable it basically acts a sensor. FC's are better buys after u build up ur comp and u finid the fans too loud.

what I am saying is that the only time one would get a fan controller is when the fans are very noisy and that he or she can't stand it.

and the sensors, what I was referring to.... no thing really. just though to let you know there are fans that has sensors build in and it will spin faster or slower when the temp inside the pc case changes.
