How can I play avi files in Ubuntu. Ive been working on this for about 5 hours now. Thanks for your suggestions.
Download VLC and use it to play all your videos
www.videolan.org
Download the debian package and install it.
I installed vlc, it still doesnt play avi, it plays, but all messed up. What is that second part about debian package, what do you mean. I recall reading somewhere about uninstalling Gstreamer, is this true?
yeah i remember when i first setup ubuntu, very long ago, needs to install a bunch of codecs etc. but i found THIS link for you
hope it helps
I cant follow this tutorial, i am really confused by it, can anyone out there explain it. I got vlc player, is there a way to make vlc player work? Thanks for your support. If i could just learn this OS I would be really happy with it.
wow am surprise, if you can't follow this guide then if you go to ubuntu forums you wont be able to understand anything. seems you're rushing.
Thank you very much. Ya, this is embarrassing, I really am retarded when it comes to Ubuntu. I think I need to find a friend to demonstrate the general idea, then i can work from there.
I was unable to find libdvdcss in synaptics.
i entered those lines, and it looked like it was almost about to do something
The reason you don't see your password is because of security, you are typing it yes, but it won't show you what you're typing, so be sure not to make any mistakes (spelling etc) while typingWhat does that mean. It wont let me even type anything except enter, then after 3 tries it tells me i failed.
what type of avi file is this? I play avi files all the time just fine in VLC with no needed codec.
Are you trying to play some kind of weird DRM avi from like WMP or something?
