I got a HP media center pc. 2.2gig quad core, 3gig ram, nvidia 8500 gt and 750 gig 7200rpm hard drive for only 998.

could have had a gateway 7026 with a 2.5ghz quad core, 4gigs of ram, evga 8800gt overclocked, and 640gb hd for 1099

You got ripped dude. Damn OEM prices suck.

1. The 8500GT sucks if you want to game. Might as well have onboard video.
2. Three gigs of ram? Nice odd number...
3. You do realize hard drives usually don't cost anything compared to other components right? And that generally, the size of your hard drive has nothing to do with how good a computer is?

4. I suggest you learn about computer hardware before making ridiculous brags. I could give a damn, it's actually funny. For your sake.

@steelshivan - He never said anything about "gaming computers" and I can tell you that 8500GT is way better than some onboard piece of ejaculate - I have one of them cards, pretty good. Also I'd like to inform you that having a nice odd number of ram doesn't cause any reliability problems, believe it or not. And I wouldn't have anything against a nice 750 GB harddrive... seems fairly nice

(You're pretty funny too, mate)

@steelshivan
No call for that, do know he was bragging or could it be he's just happy with his purchase. If he is then good for him, find a better reason to put people down in the future

Steelshivan, chill. For someone as new as you are, you certainly are NOT making a great first impression on the Forum.

To the OP - nice system. I agree that by building your own, you could have saved some money, but for what you got via a Big Brand company, it's a decent price:) In the end, it's your system - don't let others play the hate game on you.

Steelshivan is right. I suppose he could have expressed himself slightly more gently but I don't think he was out of line at all. In fact, I'd say he was doing more for the OP by helping him to realize his mistakes for the future rather than rewarding his erroneous behavior.

A 2.2GHz quad core sounds like a Phenom, 200 bucks on Newegg.

3 gigs of generic RAM (I'll use Corsair Value Select), 60 bucks on Newegg.

8500GT is 50 bucks or less.

And a 750GB, 7200RPM HDD from Seagate, Samsung, or Western Digital, $130 on Newegg.

So there's the OP's components for $440. Add in a cheap, generic power supply, case, motherboard and optical drive (just like HP did) and you've got OP's machine for $550.

Or, you could use good components instead and keep it way, way under 1000 USD.

Thanks for the some of the positive reviews. I don't build computers I work on cars. So I prefer to buy a built computer, and I feel the price is decent considering that was for the tower, speakers, 22'' LG lcd and a really nice printer that has a copier and does photos in any size. And considering what is in the tower I feel that's good. Steelshivan now you listen I wasn't bragging I was simply telling you what was in it you moron. I'm not trying to start anything but I hate people who decide to post there negative opinion and down someone when I do know that yes my computer is not top of the line But it is not bottom of the line either and for a store bought computer that was a decent price. It was no where as bad as you made. Thanks to the rest of you guys.

He never said he was going to game. 8500GT is perfect for a non-gaming computer

2. Three gigs of ram? Nice odd number...

What's wrong with 3GB of RAM? I'm sorry MR. EVEN NUMBERS

3. You do realize hard drives usually don't cost anything compared to other components right?

What do you mean HDD's dont cost anything compared to the comp?? The cheapest 750GB HDD in Newegg costs more than his motherboard.

And that generally, the size of your hard drive has nothing to do with how good a computer is?

What do you mean? How would you then efficiently use a high-end computer with a 20GB HardDrive...

You don't even know if he knows about computers. It's actually a good brag for an OEM price. Good that you give a damn. :)

3GB takes away dual channel if I'm not mistaken... :o

I can already feel the wrath upon me :P

Nope! You can still have Dual-Channel with an odd number. And guess who corrected me when I said "you can't have Dual-Channel with an odd number of sticks"... Nevakonaza...

:D

Hmm... "Dual"... that must've gotten me :D

When you say you can "dual channel" with an odd number, do you mean odd number of sticks or odd total?

You can have dual channel 3Gb!!!!!!!

2x 1Gb sticks and 2x 512Mb sticks :D

DUAL CHANNEL :D

Whatever configuration as long as you have the same amount of MB on each channel. ;)
