Hard Drive Data Loss

I've been doing work with my computer for a week now and I made sure I saved everything.

I decided to reboot without backing up anything and the harddrive was somehow reset to the same way it was a week ago, the last boot.

I have 1 critical thing I needed and even file recovery programs cannot find it.

What could cause this and/or how could I get my data back?

Thanks,

Perhaps you have done a system recovery that has reverted your computer back to factory default. Sometimes this is done by pressing f11 (or something like that). Has someone been playing around with your computer, or maybe you played around with it.

You may be lucky enough to buy a data recovery program, or you can even try this "trial" program to see if the file is recoverable but it won't actually recover the program till you buy it. http://www.recovermyfiles.com/
