I am currently using a hitachi desktar hard drive. it uses a 4 pin molex connector for power.

I want to buy a WD Raptor, and I notice the power connector is different. What kind of power connector is this?

Its a SATA power connector, most power supplies come with them, however, you can get a 4pin Molex to SATA Power Connector for about $3 on Newegg.

Like said above its a Sata power connector, if your P/S has one it looks like this

If not you can get one of these and use a molex connector.

The bottom picture you supplied xbadwolfx, contains a photo of the SATA data transfer connector (The smaller one) and the SATA power connector (The bigger one) The top picture you supplied looks like it supports both IDE and SATA :)

there is no IDE anywhere in any of those pictures, where are you looking?

Cleric, if you look at the first picture in his first post, he shows a hard drive. That specific hard drive in that picture supports both IDE and SATA.

If this is the picture you are talking about there is no IDE anywhere in there. You seem to be confusing a 4-pin molex connector with an IDE connector for some reason...

There ya go. Just don't plug a SATA and 4pin molex in at the same time. Bad things will happen.

ive seen computers that have been running fine with both plugged in for months, but im pretty sure western digital recommends not plugging them both in

I'm sorry that was my mistake. I meant to refer to the power connections and not the data connections like I did earlier. I meant that the HDD supports both Molex and SATA power connections. Not IDE and SATA data connections.

Oscar, awhile ago I tested it out for about a week and nothing bad happened to anything.
