I’m planning a new FSX computer gamer build and I’d like your help. I already have an Intel e8400 in hand and I’m planning to use DDR3 memory unless someone can give me a compelling reason to use DDR2. I also would like your input on soundcards.

Let me know what you think!!

Monitor KDS 26” (I’m open to suggestions here. I currently have a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW 22” that I love but I’m looking for a larger monitor and will eventually get Track IR): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824155056

OS XP Pro SP3 (I don’t understand the multiple CD part): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116513

CPU Cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134

Keyboard Saitek(I like the backlit keys at night!): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823175103

Soundcard #1: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102006

Sound card #2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829156006

I’ll pick up a Microsoft mouse to complete the build. Comment away, I’d really like to hear your opinions! Let me know what you’d change and why or what I forgot to add. I know if I wait a few weeks prices will drop on video cards and memory….

Thanks!

Kevin

all looks good, what processor you getting?

dont get the AC7 pro...theres better coolers.
i would go with a Zalman.

also go with soundcard 2 you listed :)

Whats wrong with the ac7 pro? What specific cooler would you recommend then?

what he said below.....get a Tuniq Tower ;)

Oh come on man, the AC7 Pro is not a bad cooler. Yours is an exception :) But I agree in that theres better ones. Zalman 9700 or Tuniq Tower are up there.

its not bad no,its quiet but im just not happy with it.

i might replace mine soon

you should get DDR2 800MHz at 4-4-4-12 or lower timings.
the DDR3 has very slow timings at 7-7-7-18 too 9-9-9-26 that is some very slow timings the DDR2 800 at 4-4-4-12 will preform better than DDR3 ram because of its faster timings

...the DDR2 800 at 4-4-4-12 will preform better than DDR3 ram because of its faster timings

Nope! It's like comparing DDR2 with DDR, no competition. DDR3 is a bit better than DDR2, simply because DDR3 comes in way faster speeds. Timings help with benchmarking and that kinda stuff but really, they don't show up a lot when you actually put them to work such as in gaming.

thermalrigh ultra-90 XTreme WTF
ps what does FSX mean

FSX is Microsoft's Flight Simulator X (10).

Great posts with good information. I'm not sold on the cooler just wanted some opinions.

Is the DDR3 memory more "future-proofed"?

Any other suggestions on components?

Thanks,

Kevin

Updated FSX build!!

This is an update:

I’m planning to order these parts Friday or this weekend for my computer. I’ve changed a few items around based on input received and my research. I already have an Intel E8400 and a Seagate 500 gb 3.0 SATA hard drive in hand.

Microsoft Mouse: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826105183

I didn’t get a soundcard as I’ve heard that the onboard sound in conjunction with the video card is 8.1.

I already have the Saitek X52 Joystick/Throttles and Rudder Pedals.

Total cost is $1729 with about $120 in mail in rebates.
Thanks!
