Hi !
I’ am not an expert on a computer field. What I do is wedding photography . my old fellow 7 year old computer struggling with big files ( over 120 Mb one photo. )
I do not play games, only use Photoshop heavily.
My plan for new computer is:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 CPU 2.66 GHz FSB 1333MHz
Or
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 CPU 2.83 GHz FSB 1333MHz

Asus P5E3-DELUXE-WIFI QuadCore X38 FSB1333 DDR3
Or
Asus P5E3-WS-PRO QuadCore X38 FSB1600 DDR3
Or
ASUS MAXIMUS EXTREME S775 M/B

Do I benefit from getting better cpu and motherboard ?
Some told me – not to go for extra $ spending for my needs- but I want something really good this time.
The same question is about the video card and DDR 3

What is your opinion ?

Thanks in advance

John G.

Places sell motherboard and CPU combos, if you do photo editing you can spend about half that and get a great set up. Struggles with photos over 120 mb? Every photo these days is over that right? I have been told AMD procs and ATI graphics are better for major editing. If your computer is 7 years old make sure it can fit an ATX motherboard. You may have to upgrade your power supply. Here are a few ideas. Ok, tigerdirect is down for right now. They have the best motherboard and cpu combos I have seen for sale. If your computer is 7 years old......maybe it might be time to upgrade the whole system? Just an Idea

Sorry about the post before, I was in a hurry. 120mb photo??? wow, what kind of camera you got? Anyway, you have to post your full computer specs so we can see what is compatible with what. I have a hunch if your computer is 7 years old it might not be able to work with a motherboard or a proc quite like you want. That motherboard and proc takes a lot of power and I would guess your power supply would not support it. What kind of graphics card do you have? Do you also want to upgrade this? How much money are you willing to spend? Send some more info and we will help you get on the right track with upgrading your system :)

I’m not planning to upgrade my old computer,
I’m going to get a new one from scratch
New box, cpu . motherboard , video card, ram, power supply …….
From the list from my previous post what is the best combination of motherboard and cpu that give. most of it ?
As I said before I do not want unreliable or “ may be ok “ system.
For me is better to spent extra $ 300 – 500 and have good stable and quick machine .

Fully understand about the reliable system...I am the same way...I will spend the extra money for good quality parts. All those motherboards and procs are great and will be great additions for a new machine. The ASUS MAXIMUS EXTREME is a sick motherboard! Throw the Q9550 in it and that's about as good as it gets in 18 May 2008! What are some of the other parts you plan on using the build?

I would say:
Core2Duo
Good graphiccard (GDDR3)
DDR3 RAM. (Much faster)
Asus P5K is really nice.

I used that as a gaming/photo computer. It's worked really good!

I think I will go for
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 CPU 2.66 GHz FSB 1333MHz and
Asus P5E3-DELUXE-WIFI QuadCore X38 FSB1333 DDR3 because I do not see much of the benefit getting faster ( Q9550 cpu – only 170 mb faster ) or gaming motherboard , correct me please if I’m wrong .
HHD - Seagate 3.5" CUDA 7200.11 500GB 7200RPM 32MB SATAII 1.5Gb s NCQ
I need your opinions please !
Video card , 8600 GT 1gb memory , but I’m not sure yet.
DDR 3 1600mhz but which one ? corsair ??

Antec TruePower Trio 650W ATX Power Supply 120mm fan Dual PCI-E Graphics Card Connector 4 SATA Connectors

Antec "Nine Hundred" Tower Gaming Case with Side Window - Black NO PSU 9 Drive Bays Top mounted 200mm exhaust fan Top USB/IEEE1394/Audio ATX

Logitech mx 5500

And the biggest question L C D ,
please remember that I will us it 95% for photo editing and occasionally internet .
lcd is really pain in the neck, so many of them around , what parameters I should look for.
I need your opinions, comments and help , please !

Um I don't see why you'll need such a good motherboard for a photoshop computer. I would stick with the GA-P35 board and get 4 gigs of DDR2 1066 memory. You won't need that powerful of a graphics card, that 8600gt should do fine. That CPU would do fine for Photoshop (make sure you get CS3, it's much better for multi core platforms. As for the case, it's really up to you, but I personally recommend the Centurion 5 or the P180.

What do people say about this???

I don't think he'll need an 8800GT for a photoshop computer. Maybe a nice 8600gt or something will be suffice. And that said, you really don't need a high wattage powersupply. Maybe a nice Corsair 450watt unit will do.

Thank you all !

When you have a new computer do you first format new HDD or just set up windows?

You pop the OS CD in upon boot up and follow the directions. You'll have to partition and format the disk somewhere before actually installing the operating system.
