Which laptop videocard?

Alright I'm looking for a gaming laptop that I will be bringing to college (don't tell me there is no such thing just get me the closest you can :) ). I'm finding that video cards are extremely complex and I'm having trouble deciding which one ones would be good for gaming. Now I'm looking at video cards that will be in laptops $1350 and less so I'm doubting I'll be able to get anything like an 8800, but could someone perhaps list some GPU's that will keep the computer snappy and at the same time run games at the highest settings (that I can expect). I've looked at the AT Radeon HD 3650 (1024mb) and the GeForce 9500gs (512mb), but I'm told these aren't very good choices. Would I be able to afford a laptop that perhaps has better cards and which ones should I be looking at.

I can't get my head around all the specs I need to keep in mind. There's the size of the card but them there's also pipelines, and the ddr2/ddr3 etc specs. I don't know which ones are important etc. So any help on this subject would be much appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.

I'm playing Games Via bootcamp on my MBP but i'm really impressed that that fact it doesn't use too much watt unlike the Alienware M9750 7950GTX

Newegg has good deals on laptops. Here is a link to a Toshiba notebook with the nvidia 8700 graphics card, better than the 8600 and worse than the 8800. It is still a good card, I run cod4 on max resolution on my laptop with it.

If you can afford not having good battery life, and having a big screen (17 inches), it is a good laptop.
Would the slower processor affect anything though? IT looks like a nice computer. Thanks for the reply!

The processor on the Toshiba looks slow, but it is still a core 2 duo. It is a good processor. My laptop has the same video card as the Toshiba, and after updating the drivers (takes around 20 minutes), it is a really good video card.
