How to;
hi i have a pc with a linksys wired router and wireless access point. i am using this setup because the pc doesnt have a wireless adapter and i have two laptops running off the wireless. i just used the linksys online setup page to set up a network so the laptops could connect to the internet. but now i have a lot of music on the pc that i would like to access on the laptops through a shared folder, but cant figure out how to get that to work. anybody know how to make file sharing work with this kind of set up?

Commoningly Windows "Network Setup Wizard", just doesn't seem to work properly, i.e the configuration it provides is wrong.
Guide;
1 - Enable sharing of the folder in question; Go to folder, Right click it, click on "properties", Next got the tab at the top labelled "Sharing". Next click on the blue writing thats says " If you understand the risk...... Click Here"
Now options will make themselves available.
At the bottom you will see more blue writing saying the same as before "If You understand the risk...... Click Here". Click it.
A window will appear with 2 options. You need to choose the bottom one "Just enable file sharing", then OK.
The window will disappear, and the Sharing tab options will haved changed.
Click on "Share this folder on a network" and "Allow network users to change my files". Insert Your own "Share name" e.g "My Shared Music".
Finish by clicking "OK".
This way of sharing folders is the same on all XP laptops and computers.
2 - Now to put all the computers / laptops in the same Workgroup so they are accessible to all within your network.
THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE ON ALL COMPUTERS IN QUESTION.
First right click on "My Computer" either from the Start menu or on the desktop.
Click on "properties"
Now choose the tab labelled "Computer Name"
Click the button "Change"
Either leave the computer name as it is or put something more fitting in Office PC, My laptop e.t.c, just remember that all the computers need different names.
Now you need to change the workgroup name (or can leave as "Workgroup").
IMPORTANT; the workgroup name must be the SAME on all the computers in your network.
Click OK to finish.
You will be prompted to restast - DO SO!
Once this procedure has been completed on all the computers, you should be able to access the shared folders via "Network Places" either from the desktop if is here, the start menu if is located there, or through control panel --> Network Connections then on the left hand side of the Network Connections window.
Hope this helps, this is how I do it.
