Hard drive died, will I have issues with the re-install???

I have a Toshiba A25 laptop and the HD failed. The HD is no biggie but I'm not sure what's going to happen when I put in my new HD and then start the "recovery disk". Is it going to install the OS without any issues or was the OS embedded in the old HD?
This is a plug and play repair but with this issue looming I'm not sure how to proceed should I actually need an XP disk for the reinstall. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

If you are using a SATA hdd, you just need to plug in the power and data cable, and start your laptop.(if ide there is a bit more to do). There is no big deal installing the os, all you need is to enter BIOS ans set primary boot device cd rom. After that restart your pc, when press any key to boot from cd... apears on the screen press any key and follow further instructions.

Make sure you have all drivers first!! Just put the disk in and reboot. It should boot from the disk automatically.

^ The recovery disk should have the drivers on it, the question is whether it can install the OS without any trouble... and @Eddie, it *should* work, AFAIK the recovery disk contains all the same stuff the recovery partition on the old HD does.

That is the million dollar question, will the recovery disk work with a naked Hdd? I seem to remember a large chunk of "unmovable data" when I would defrag. I'm sure the RD has all the drivers and other unwanted BS on it but does it have Windows XP?
The new Hdd shipped this morning, I'll let you know how it goes

Recovery disks will work with a naked hdd!! The question is whether vista or xp will boot you b/c of a hdd change.

I would think XP wouldn't care about the Hdd since the first thing that happens in many cases is a reformat, MB and things like the NIC are what it looks at...supposedly. Time will tell.
